Vojvodina cuisine is varied and rich, with a lot of meat, vegetables, spices and fruits. This comes from the wealth of Vojvodina plains, forests and rivers. Vojvodina cookery is a mixture of different cuisines of the people who have lived for centuries on these territory.

There is a wealth of culinary knowledge and mutual influence of the Serbian, Hungarian, Romanian and Slovakian cuisine, and many dishes are derived from the German, Russian, Oriental and other cuisines from the region.

Program:

 

DAY 1 – Arrival to Serbia – Fruška gora mountain – Sremski Karlovci – Novi Sad

Fly to Belgrade, transfer to rustic Perkov salash farm for a big organic lunch. If the weather is fine, dine al fresco under the shade of ancient trees. All salash farms offer unique traditional hospitality, gourmet cuisine and warm ‘’home-like’’ atmosphere. Visit to monastery Krušedol, one of the most significant monasteries on Fruška Gora, founded by Despot Djordje Branković, at the period between the 1509 and 1512 year. Drive to Sremski Karlovci, the spiritual and cultural center of the Serbs during the Austria-Hungarian reign. Walk through beautiful baroque center and the pedestrian area of Sremski Karlovci. Tasting of several kinds of wines, including the ‘’Bermet’’, an authentic and unique desert aromatic wine, which was served in the times of Maria Theresa. Tasting of the ‘’Kuglof’’, traditional sweet cake from this region. Continue to Novi Sad. Dinner with fish menu in restaurant at the bank of Danube river. Overnight in Novi Sad.

 

DAY 2 – Subotica – Palić

Morning departure toward northern part of Serbia, where you can notice the influence of Hungarian – former Austro-Hungarian cuisine. You will visit Subotica, a city in the heart of the Pannonian basin, famous for its exceptional cultural heritage in the style of Hungarian version of Art Nouveau. Sightseeing tour of most important sights of secession in this town, and reasons of comparison with Barcelona. The City Hall is a true symbol of Subotica. This art of secession building, decorated with famous Zsolnay ceramics. Rajhl Pallace is called „Gaudi – like building“, one of the most beautiful ones in Subotica. Drive to Hajdukovo for delicious lunch – goulash made of mangulice (indigenous sort of pig) followed by tasting of autochthonous wines ‘’s peska’’ (from the sands’’). Drive to Palić a tourist center, the summer resort and spa, with a tradition of over 160 years. Palić Lake is also known as the ‘’Blue Eye of the Plain’’. There are some art-secession buildings, the most notables of them are the Water Tower and the Gran Terrace on the lake. Relax walking near the lake. Drive to farm 137 in Cenej and traditional dinner from Vojvodina region. Return to Novi Sad and overnight.

 

DAY 3 – Kovačica – Belgrade

Morning departure to Kovačica, center of naïve art. Kovacica was settled in 1802 and its inhabitants at the moment are the sixth generation of Slovakim migrants who were born in Kovačica. Their ancestors have moved here by permission of the Empress Maria Theresa, to guard and defend the borders between the Austro – Hungarian Monarchy and Ottoman Empire. During these 210 years of settlement a new specific culture was sprouting, described and called the Naïve (self-thought) Painting. Mr. Koichiro Matsuura, director general of UNESCO, has confirmed the world’s heritage needing such art works that are painted in Kovačica. Visit to Zuzana Vereski’s art studio and Nemček violin workshop. Lunch with Slovakian traditional food. After lunch drive to Belgrade and check-in to the hotel. Panoramic sightseeing of Belgrade followed by a walking tour. The tour includes following sights: Kalemegdan fortress, Assembly of the City of Belgrade, National Assembly, Republic Square, Terazije Square, Old and New Court, Slavija Square, Temple Saint Sava, Royal Palace… Farewell dinner in Skadarlija street, one of the rare quarters with authentic surrounding and the center of bohemian life. It is know by the attractive national restaurants with live music. Overnight in Belgrade.

 

DAY 4 – Departure day

After breakfast free time until transfer to Belgrade airport. Departure flight and end of program.
